Ernex AS is located in Tistedal, just outside Halden, where we have a production facility of 5000 m². With roots dating back to 1947, we have a proud industrial history and unique expertise built up over generations.
Our story began when Arne Gjerde established the Gjerdesagen concept in 1947. In 1951, production expanded in Drøbak at Jens A. Schou Mekaniske Verksted, and in 1958, Gjerdesagen secured a world patent – a milestone that laid the foundation for further growth. In 1983, production moved to A/S Jøtul in Tistedal, and in 1990, the company was named Ernex AS.
The company further developed through new ownership and mergers.
The history of Grimstål began after World War II when Brødrene Grimsrud established a steel goods production facility in Bekkestua, Bærum. The company developed and produced steel trolleys and stackers for industry and warehouses. The products became known for their solid quality and functional design. Later, the business continued under the name Grimstål, which still stands for robust steel products for professional environments.
In 2011, Grimstål Produkter was acquired by Eagle Gruppen, before both Eagle Gruppen and Petersborg Invest AS jointly acquired Ernex AS in 2018. In the same year, Ernex and Grimstål Produkter merged into one company under the Ernex name. In 2023, Petersborg Invest AS took over 100% of the shares in Ernex AS.
Today, we combine tradition, innovation, and modern production technology – delivering products with high quality, long lifespan, and excellent functionality.
We want to contribute to a more sustainable society and therefore take responsibility for our environmental impact. An important part of this work is being Eco-Lighthouse certified. This means we have established an environmental management system that guides our climate and environmental efforts and helps us achieve continuous improvement.
The certification also includes specific requirements that must be met in areas such as the working environment, energy management, waste, chemical handling, and procurement. Every year, we complete a climate and environmental report that provides a good overview of our progress and areas for improvement. Click here to read the 2025 climate and environmental report.
To reduce our negative environmental impact, we work both internally within the company and externally with key partners.
We look forward to working together to create a more sustainable society, and we encourage you to contact us with any questions or input at post@ernex.no.
